If you’ve ever checked the label on store-bought sprinkles, you’ll know they’re usually packed with artificial colours, preservatives and full of sugar. These healthy, natural sprinkles are our simple, whole-food alternative that won’t give your little ones energy crashes!
They’re made with just unsweetened desiccated coconut and plant-based powders, so they’re vegan, naturally coloured, and suitable from 12 months+. No artificial dyes. No preservatives. No refined sugar. Just real ingredients that add colour and fun without compromising on what you’re feeding your little one.
They’re perfect for sprinkling over pancakes, yoghurt, porridge or toddler-friendly treats and they store beautifully, making them a great make-ahead option for busy families.

Healthy Natural Dye-Free Sprinkles
Ingredients
Per colour: we made 5 colours
- 50 g desiccated coconut (unsweetened)
Natural colouring options (pick one per portion/colour of coconut)
- 2 tsp berry powders (raspberry for red, strawberry for pink, blueberry for purple, add more if you want them more vibrant)
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder (for yellow)
- 1/2 tsp spirulina powder (for green)
- 1-2 tsp water (just enough to lightly coat)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 80c/175f.
- Add the desiccated coconut and your chosen colouring powder to a bowl and mix until evenly coated. Add 1–2 teaspoons of water and stir again. You want the coconut just lightly damp so the colour sticks, not wet or clumpy.
- Spread the mixture in a thin, even layer on a lined baking tray. Repeat with remaining colours if making a large multi-coloured sprinkle batch (we do 5 colours across 2 trays).
- Bake without a fan for 1 to 1½ hours, until fully dry. Gently stir every 20–30 minutes, using a fork to move the edges toward the centre and break up any clumps without pressing or squashing the texture.
- Once dry and crisp, allow the sprinkles to cool completely on the tray, before storing in an airtight container.
Storage
Once fully dry, store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 months, or up to 6 months in the fridge or freezer. If the sprinkles soften due to humidity or incomplete drying, simply return them to a low oven for 10 minutes to refresh.Nutrition - Per Serving
