👶🏼 BABY BLOCKS, EP 2: The ultimate way to bulk pre 👶🏼 BABY BLOCKS, EP 2: The ultimate way to bulk prep baby food 🙌🏼

You guys loved “Duplo Dinners” so here’s another “Baby Blocks” - something that is going to save you time, money, and your sanity… because cooking a variety of foods every day for a baby isn’t always possible.

This is a simple way to prep and freeze multiple components separately: grains, sauces, proteins, and veggies… like building blocks you can mix and match to create multiple different meals for your baby.

You can do this by filling freezer moulds with leftovers when you cook a meal for the family (make sure it’s in safe sizes and free of salt, sugar, chilli, and caffeine). Our containers are from @seedandsproutco (you can get 10% off using LVE10 🥳) which are the perfect portion size. I find 3-4 small 50 ml blocks work really well for a meal for babies and the 25ml size is great for things like pesto, jam, and pancakes. Then pick what you want, pop them into your glass container, defrost, and warm it up however you like (airfryer works perfectly!).

The dishes below work well thinned out as a sauce with pasta or rice, as a puree for scooping, or as a dip with bread. And freezing pancake batter is a huge hack, no messy blender every time, and you just pop 4-5 out and cook it low and slow to defrost on the first side before flipping and increasing the heat to medium.

🌱 Spinach pesto (made without basil so it’s light in flavour and a good source of fat and fibre)
🥞 Pancakes
💕 Raspberry chia jam
🍝 Bolognese
🌾 Iron fortified pasta
🥣 Roasted Cauliflower and Red Pepper soup / puree (add less liquid when making then thin out adult portion)

Mostly because my little one is still slowly coming around to fresh greens, so I’ve got to keep them interesting. And this salad combines 3 of the most viral salads all in one: 🌱 CRISPY RICE x GREEN GODDESS x CUCUMBER SALAD 🌱

This one’s high in fibre and iron, and packs a whole lot of goodness and flavour into one simple and quick dish. I

🍊 MARMALADE SANDWICH COOKIES 🍪 If your kid likes 🍊 MARMALADE SANDWICH COOKIES 🍪

If your kid likes Paddington, you’re going to want to make these. We took a marmalade sandwich, combined it with cookie dough, and somehow they became the crunchiest whilst softest cookies ever.

We made these Paddington Bear style as a fun recreation of my daughter’s favourite book character’s favourite food, which we’ve been listening to on repeat on her @yotoplay_au player 🎵🐻

You could use any jam or store-bought marmalade for these, but it’s orange season and the flavour of a quick homemade orange “marmalade” is so good (and we don’t actually like normal marmalade 😅). It’s just a couple of oranges, a little zest and a spoonful of maple syrup.

You can also use regular bread over sourdough, but we prefer sourdough as it gives chunkier, crispier crumbs and is what we had on hand.

This is one of those budget friendly, super easy weeknight meals but that packs a tonne of flavour and goodness! 

It took a lot of trial and error but these meatballs are perfect!! They’re soft, slightly chewy (keep them softer by skipping the oven stage for babies under 18 months) and packed with umami flavour.

It’s one of those simple “wake-up” snacks… but really this one’s an any time of the day snack. It has healthy fats, a little protein, and some carbs to help ease off toddler hanger meltdowns 🤣😅

🍌 3-INGREDIENT PB BANANA CUPS 🥜

Vegan 🌱 Makes 12 mini cups 👶 12+ months

INGREDIENTS:
1 large ripe banana, cut into 12 slices 
12 Tbsp of nut or seed butter (we used a 100% natural peanut one)
12 Tbsp plain coconut yogurt (unsweetened)
Optional to top: 1–2 Tbsp of seeds or natural sprinkles (we used homemade sprinkles)

HOW TO:
1. Line a muffin tray with cases or silicone moulds.
2. Add 1 Tbsp of nut butter to the base of each cup, spreading with a spoon to cover the base.
3. Gently press a banana slice on top of the peanut butter.
4. Spoon 1 Tbsp of coconut yogurt over each banana slice to cover.
5. Optional: sprinkle the tops with seeds or sprinkles. 
6. Freeze for at least 2 hours or until solid. 
7. Remove from the freezer and liners, then allow it to sit for 5–10 mins before serving to soften slightly (serve whole for older toddlers or slice in half)

Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 months.

🍎 SIMPLE SKILLET APPLE GALETTE 🥧 Simple, wholesome 🍎 SIMPLE SKILLET APPLE GALETTE 🥧
Simple, wholesome, basic desserts win every time 🙌🏼 And this one is so simple that you really can’t go wrong. One of the best parts about a galette is that it’s naturally rustic, so you can simply pile all the apples in or arrange them in a pattern, and they both look great.

I’m usually of the opinion that “pastry takes too long to make,” but this one is super easy to make and just the right thickness and sweetness level - but if you’re short on time, feel free to use a store-bought shortcrust pastry sheet for an even easier dessert.

We baked this in the Culinary Co By Manu 20cm Cast Iron Fry Pan from @spotlightstores and it is the ONLY way I’m baking pies from now on! The cast iron distributes heat evenly and helps create a crisp, golden base, and is the perfect size for a family dish. We served it up on the new Chateau dinner plates and cutlery, with a scoop of ice cream and date caramel sauce, and it was the ultimate cosy dessert ✨
