This banana bread is suitable from 6 months, but also a firm favourite of the older members of our family too. It goes perfect warmed with a little coconut oil or almond butter on top.

Banana Bread

Ingredients

  • 4 large bananas (500g peeled, mashed)
  • 80 ml coconut oil (melted)
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 80 ml soy milk (or other plant based milk)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 240 g wholemeal flour

Optional add ins

  • 2 tbsp pumpkin seeds (finely chopped to serve, or chopped walnuts throughout)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 90 g blueberries

Instructions 

  • Preheat the oven to 180c/350f.
  • Add all of the wet ingredients together and stir to combine. Then stir in the flour, baking powder, and bicarbonate of soda (add any extra add ins here if you want).
  • Grease a loaf tin (9”x5”) with a little coconut oil, then pour the batter in and cook for 50 – 60 minutes until a skewer comes out clean.
  • Cool in the tin for 5 mins before removing and leaving to cool.
  • Slice into ~8 slices and serve plain, or with age appropriate toppings.

Storage

Store on the bench for 2 days, fridge for 5, or freeze in slices for 2 months

    I love this bread recipe. I used olive oil vs coconut oil. I also added brown sugar top the top of the batter prior to baking to add more sweetness.

      It should work, pumpkin also works well as a swap too .

    This recipe is great. I made it with my 1 year old as his first baking experience and it still turned out great despite curious hands! I used vegetable oil and plain flour instead of wholemeal. It tastes delicious!

    Super delicious and easy recipe we usually make once a week! We use all purpose flour and make muffins, so our toddler can have servings on the go. Looking forward to trying more kid friendly recipes 🙂
