Vegan 🌱 Baby Led Weaning 🥕 Makes 18 Balls

These require minimal ingredients which are in most cupboards, are super quick to make, and are a good snack for toddlers and adults. Plus they’re made with carrots, so a win for getting veggies in!

These are for over 12 months due to them containing dates (although you can give from 6 months if you’re ok with the small sugar content in them, but it’s all up to you). Dates are such a healthy food with so many vitamins and minerals, however it’s recommended to wait until over 12 months.

Carrot Cake Bliss Balls

5 from 5 votes
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 0 minutes
Setting Time 1 hour
Total Time 1 hour 15 minutes
Servings 6
Suitable For 12m+

Ingredients

  • 2 medium carrots (peeled & grated)
  • 110 g rolled oats
  • 50 g walnuts
  • 10 dates (dried and pitted - soaked in hot water for 10 mins to soften)
  • 2 tbsp water (use 2 tbsp to begin and add up to 4 tbsp if it’s too dry to blend; it all depends on the carrots liquid content)

Spice Blend

  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger

To Roll

  • 50 g desiccated coconut (unsweetened; almond flour works as a sub)

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients (except the coconut for rolling) to a blender & blend till smooth. Use up to 4Tbsp of water to help it blend if needed.
  • Use approx 1-2 tbsps to shape in to balls and roll in the coconut.
  • Note: these are soft at first, if they’re too soft to roll, wait 10min for the oats to absorb some of the liquid. They need to be soft for little ones to be able to eat them safely, and the mixture does solidify as they set over an hour in the fridge.

Storage

Store in the fridge for 5 days or freezer for 2 months.

  1. Hi I made these but I think I just edited too much water. I will let them sit as you suggested. Lol They taste wonderful. Making hubby for snacks.

These are fab! Were a bit sticky so let them sit for a bit and sure enough they got more solid! I added in some seed mix and used almonds instead of walnuts as my son is allergic. Big hit with the whole family!

I made these for my little boy and we absolutely love them. I have been having them as my snacks at work too. Like little carrot cake truffles

Little carrot cake truffles, the best name ever for these! Glad you are all enjoying them x

  3. Could you add plant protein to these to help get protein in my kiddos diet?

    • Cat Reply

I haven’t tried that, but you could for older kids!x

This is my first time ever writing a review on a recipe page because these are just SO GOOD! I made them with my toddler, and he loved being able to help at every step. We’ll be making these regularly. 🙂

      • Could i use quinoa flakes or puffed rice instead of oats in all the bliss ball recipes? My niece cant have oats, gluten, peanuts, dairy or eggs

Made these with my 3yr old and they’re amazing! I couldn’t get the consistency perfect and ended up adding too much water. I added more oats and it was workable. Even with my mistake they still formed and tasted great. Will make again.

Glad you found a way! Definitely start with no added water and gradually add as needed x

  6. Can you use quick oats? Any concern with oats not being cooked/baked in this recipe?

    • Cat Reply

You can, they’re getting blended up anyways so no difference (just rolled is what we always use). These work sort of like overnight oats in that they absorb the liquid and are safe to eat in amounts like this

  7. Hi. Can I make these without the dates? Or any substitute? I’m thinking of making them for my 10mos old.

Hi, you can leave them out and add something like a Tbsp of nut or seed butter to get them to stick together 🙂

Hi, you can sub in another dried fruit like raisins, prunes, or apricot, or leave it out altogether and add a Tbsp of nut or seed butter to help them bind better.
