If your toddler is refusing meals or recovering from being sick, this Choc PB Protein Smoothie for Toddlers is an easy way to get real nutrition into them without a fight. It tastes like a chocolate milkshake but each serve contains 14g protein, 7.5g fibre and around 2mg iron from avocado, banana, hemp seeds and peanut butter.

And, extra bonus tips: if you put some extra peanut butter on the inside of their smoothie cup in little dots, you can get away with calling it a choc-cheetah smoothie, which kids LOVE!

  • 375 ml soy milk
  • 2 tbsp hemp seeds
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter (100% natural)

Instructions

Notes

The recipe makes two portions, so you can give one to your toddler now and save the second in the fridge for later (up to one day) or drink it yourself. It blends silky smooth and works just as well in a cup, smoothie pouch or poured into icy pole moulds for toddlers who prefer things frozen.
Ingredient Swaps: use what you’ve got:
Banana → frozen mango or cooked sweet potato for lower sugar
Peanut butter → almond or cashew butter, or tahini for nut-free daycare
Soy milk → oat or almond milk (add extra hemp or chia if you need to bump protein back up)
Hemp seeds → chia seeds or LSA mix
Dates → 1 tsp maple syrup or half a ripe pear
Cacao powder → carob powder for a caffeine-free version
