Summer is about to hit, so slushies are about to be everywhere! But did you know most of the ones you’ll find at shops, cinemas, food stalls or petrol stations aren’t suitable for kids under 8!! That’s because they often contain an ingredient called glycerol, which when little ones drink too much too quick, can cause glycerol intoxication and can make little ones unwell, with some cases leading to hospital visits!
So let’s get this info out AND share the most delicious summery slushie made with real fruit and simple ingredients, and no unsafe ingredients, so the whole family can enjoy it.

Strawberry & Mint Lemonade Slushie
Equipment
- Slushie Machine
Ingredients
- 500 g strawberries (frozen)
- 500 ml water
- 1 whole lemon (juiced)
- 3 tbsp maple syrup (optional if strawberries aren’t sweet enough)
- 5 mint leaves
Instructions
- Blend all ingredients together until smooth.
- Pour into your slushie machine (we used the GreenPan Frost Ice Cream & Frozen Drink Maker, slushie setting, firmness level of 5).Note: if you dont have a slushie machine you can sub some of the water for ice, and have more as a cool drink, still tasty, but not the slushie texture.
- Once frozen to the right consistency, top with a few extra mint leaves and a strawberry to garnish and enjoy immediately.
Storage
Drink immediately, or turn leftovers into popsicles.Notes
